Download and verify

Open GitHub Latest and require its tag to match the signed macOS manifest before downloading. If they differ or the release lacks the matching DMG and checksum, pause; do not install an older default. Current builds are Apple Silicon (arm64); Intel packages are not published yet. Download the .dmg and its same-named .dmg.sha256 into ~/Downloads. The following block selects the most recently downloaded Caelis DMG, verifies its exact sibling checksum, mounts it read-only and installs it into your user Applications folder. Quit an existing CaelisBot first; the commands stop if it is running or already installed. For an upgrade, move just the old .app to Trash first. Your data under ~/Library/Application Support/Caelis Bot/ is preserved.

First launch

Open Caelis Bot.app from Applications and confirm macOS’s normal first-open prompt if shown. Stable releases use Developer ID signing and Apple notarization, with tickets attached to both the app and DMG. No quarantine-removal command is needed.

If you dragged the app into the system Applications folder, use /Applications/Caelis Bot.app. If checksum, signature or Gatekeeper verification fails, download a fresh official copy. Do not disable system security or re-sign the download to conceal a failure.

Connect and use

CaelisBot appears in the menu bar and on the desktop, not as a regular Dock app. Single-click the character to toggle chat; double-click to recall chat and any open settings. Menu-bar settings control visibility, size, runtime and updates. Only Quit ends the app.

Choose a runtime during setup or in Settings → Connections & models. Caelis is bundled; connect a model service or reuse your existing authenticated model. Codex uses a compatible local installation and your account; follow the app’s installation/login steps if it is missing. Confirm a model and complete the introduction to begin chatting. System permissions are requested when a feature needs them. See runtime compatibility.

Notifications are opt-in. Resident reminders pause when the app exits. Updating the .app preserves preferences, attachments and conversation binding. Keep the Application Support/Caelis Bot folder unless you intentionally want to remove your data.

Update

Updater-enabled releases check daily. In Settings → Updates, turn automatic checks on or off or check immediately. Confirm the native dialog to download and install a signed newer version. The app waits for work and unresolved decisions to reach a safe handoff before restarting; conversations, Notebook and settings remain in the same data directory.

Already published v0.1.0 needs one manual upgrade to an updater-enabled version. The distribution mirror retains each platform’s latest verified baseline; historical packages remain on GitHub. If an old cached update download is unavailable, check for updates again or use the current official release. Local Caelis Bot Dev.app builds do not use the public updater or replace the installed release.
